Summer Class Schedule

Summer Classes

Patriotic Table Runner - Tuesday May 22  1-4 pm  $25
Class fee includes fabric kit to make one runner, 12 x 60 inches
Just in time for the summer holidays.  Let Faye show you how to make this table runner of stars and stripes, all made from precuts.  We were astonished to see how easy to make this variable (aka Ohio) star using 2.5 inch strips - absolutely NO setting in corners or triangles!  Sew it in one afternoon and make one for all your friends and family.  Red, white, and blue strips are provided in the fabric kit included in the class fee.  Enough strips to make one long runner, two shorter runners, or two placemats.  Use this same technique and make more stars and strips and presto, you have a quilt of valor.
Our goal in class is always to show you a technique, then let you be creative and show a variety of ways to make additional projects with the knowledge gained in class.  No need to take a new class for every project.
Sew this up in one afternoon, then hop over to the Bernina Q20 and quilt it using a wave ruler.
Techniques:  half square triangles, snowball corners, sew multiple strips
Strictly limited to 4 students.  Call 941-330-0993 for a seat $2

 Reminder:  Summer Hours
  • Closed to retail on Monday (open for quilting instruction)
  • Open 10-3 Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday
  • Open 10-5 Thursday and Friday
  • We started to sell online about a year ago.  On Monday its a hustle to get the weekend orders shipped, more kits cut to replace those sold, time to put additional items online, set up new systems, find and design new kits, order supplies, and ship patterns and fabric to ladies who sew for us.
  • Meet Angie and Judy - the magicians in the back who quietly make a lot of this happen - you usually won't see them in the shop unless they are hanging a quilt to photograph or roaming around looking for the next new thing to put online.  The online area is bursting at the seams and crowding out our retail space.  If you want to see what we sell, go to  We do not sell from the website, that location is for information only and we do not sell fabric from bolts online.  We sell from what I call the "big box" websites on the internet.
  • I have to tell you the story of an email that recently landed in my inbox.  Mr. inquired about purchasing our products for sale on his website, and wondered how quickly we could prepare 4 shipping containers for him.  I simply deleted the email since he doesn't have a clue what it takes for a USA quilter to make a quilt.  My brother said I should have put one quilt in each of 4 containers and shipped them to him since he didn't ask the containers be full!
  • Pillow covers for the hotel are finished, thank you Dena!  164 pieced quilty covers.  Sadly we said goodbye to our snowbird quilters and Mary on the floor until next fall.  Right now we are taking NO NEW WORK ORDERS for hand quilted pieces; we have enough work to last for the next year or more.  And we no longer make memory or T shirt quilts, we can give you a referral.  Repairs and restoration, yes.  Custom orders - a very long wait - we have many in the queue.
  •  For quilt tops to be finished by Long Arm, lately we have a rash of tops with lining the same size as the top, or yards of lining not seamed into one piece.  Reminder:  the lining must be 4-6 inches larger on ALL sides.  Simply take a strip of waste fabric, or muslin to sew on all edges.  This can be removed after the quilting.  You may lose a few inches at the bottom since rolling the quilt takes up more fabric on the back as compared with the front.  We charge $25/hour to make the lining fit if it is not large enough or needs to be sewed.
  •  Come in and finish your own quilt by free motion on the Bernina Q20, call 941-330-0993 and make an appointment.  Fee is $20/hour and includes instructions, thread, and needles.  Prerequisite:  you must have done free motion quilting on your machine.  The machine is available on MONDAY with Teresa or FRIDAY with Faye.
  • Last summer was inconvenient with the hotel construction.  This summer we plan to do some remodeling, painting, and install laminate flooring.  New signs are in the process of being made.  The old signs with dark background fade very quickly in the sun - this is the 3rd time the pylon sign streetside is being replaced.  My sign maker will now use a light background to get more mileage from them.  You can always enter through the EAST door which is unlocked when someone is in the shop.  The 3 pm hour is a soft hour, often customers arrive close to 3 to shop and we let them wander, sometimes not leaving until 4 or 4:30.  If there is something you need and can't get here by 3 pm, just give us a call at 941-330-0993 and we will be happy to wait for you.
  • Samples for the classes will be on Facebook.  Soon as I can figure out the new email system for newsletters I will also add photos to the newsletters.
