Its Wacky Wednesday

Tomorrow is Wacky Wednesday

All Clearance fabric is $4/yard - minimum cut is 1/2 yard
Bundles of 3-yard cuts are $4/yard or $12/bundle
Nice selection of 55-60 inch wide fabric is $4/yard.
How annoying is it when your finished quilt top is 45 or 46 inches wide, just beyond that width where one piece from a 44 inch wide fabric will work!  You might find the right backing in the 55-60 wide group.  Clearing out everything in this group at $4/yard on Wednesday.  $5/yard after tomorrow.  Fabric is bundled into 3-yard cuts.  We still have some items left from the Pinecraft event last week, we plan to keep these on clearance - neckties $6 each, pet mesh 50% off.  We have 50% off table in the front near the quilters and keep adding clearance items to it.

The business has undergone another major change with the hotel next door.  Many new faces on a search to buy souvenirs.  Not so many quilters.  All the items for online sales and the internet work area is now located in the East side of the main room.  Kit samples, kits, and quilts in various stages of completion are filed back here.  The area is blocked off, but amazing how many shoppers find their way back to dig through bins and boxes.  I suppose everyone thinks this is the clearance area.  Anything is for sale, and we can negotiate a price.  Last Saturday I sold a set of 12 squares destined for a crib quilt and an unquilted top destined for a kit sample that someone discovered in the work area.  Yes, happy to sell anything in any stage!  Just ask!

A great response to my request for kit cutters, thank you, so we have plenty of cutting and kitting going on.  Now I am in need of someone to help out on the retail floor and run the cash register.  A majority of our sales are not cutting fabric from bolts.  We have a lot of precuts, the world's corner on panels, ready made items, kits, etc.  We could use someone about 3 days a week, or about 20 hours a week.  If interested, this person can also be trained to print shipping labels for internet sales.  Learn as much as you want, or just stick to helping customers and running the cash register.  Hopefully the summer will slow down a bit, I need make friends with my sewing machine again.  If you have an interest in something like this, text Ella at 941-302-6101.

JOE the QUILTER will do a retreat at the new Carlisle Inn on campus on November 2 and 3.  Due to scheduling difficulties and retreat accommodations, this event has been postponed from March to November.  Spend an evening with Joe as he reveals his journey into quilting, Friday November 2.  This event is FREE.  Even if you are not a quilter you will enjoy listening to Joe and the history of how groups of women came together to form quilting "bees."  Two different workshops are available; one on Friday 9-4 and one on Saturday 9-4.  Take one or both.  Each workshop is $150 for the day and includes food.  Hotel accommodations are not included in the price.  For workshop or lecture reservations, contact the shop at 941-330-0993.

Thank you to all the northern folks, and to the local quilters for your business.  We do our best to help with your projects, sometimes it is difficult when the shop is extremely busy and there is a lineup of 3-4 people who need individual help.  Individualized instructions are always available by private class.  Call the shop to schedule a mutual time.  We do our best to be courteous, even to the most ungrateful customer, but sometimes we miss the mark and we apologize for that.  Retail sometimes is dicey, especially when at the end of the day we find empty packages where an expensive product was removed from the package.  We solved that once by sealing big kits with packing tape.  Now I guess I need to staple the packages of duckbill applique scissors to make the case impossible to open without a hacksaw.  Yes, we have the case, so if you will call with your address we will send you the case that belongs with those scissors.

Thought we saw the finish line on the custom pillows for the hotel, thank you Dena!  Now the designer has decided seasonal pillows would be nice.  That will keep us busy for the summer.  We have many other custom orders pending, so we no longer make memory or t-shirt quilts.  If you call the shop we can reference another person in the business.

Alma Sue's will be CLOSED for the Easter Holiday, beginning next Friday, March 30.  We will be closed Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, March 30, 31, April 1 and April 2.  Will re-open on Tuesday April 3.
Also beginning in April, we will adjust to our off season hours.  New this year we plan to do a soft close every Monday.  We simply need time to gather and ship all the internet orders collected over the weekend.  Plus we need time to sew custom pieces and do binding and repair work.  Effective Monday April 2, our hours will be:
Tuesday 10-3 pm
Wednesday 10-3 pm
Thursday 10-5 pm
Friday 10-5 pm
Saturday 10-3 pm

We will be on site Mondays, sewing, shipping, quilting, kitting, planning, and re-arranging the shop.  You are welcome to stop in if the lights are on or if there is a golf cart parked outside.  Or you can always call us and make a date to stop in on Monday and we will try to meet your needs.
