October is the month we change back to seasonal hours. Open 10-3 on Monday and Saturday; open 10-5 rest of the week Tuesday-Friday.
Dena will be teaching the double wedding ring class on Wednesdays, January 3, 10, and 17, from 1-4 pm. We have a great set of templates that can be used to rotary cut the shapes. Make the arcs from one piece of fabric or the more traditional multi-piece arcs. Dena will show you the tips on how to sew perfect curves. Class fee of $55 includes the set of Marti Michell templates, instruction booklet, classes, and free open sewing to finish your quilt as needed. This is a perfect pattern to use up scraps. The profile photo on our FaceBook is a DWR quilt made up entirely of Kaffe Fassett scraps, using a different print for each single arc. The class will make a throw size, giving enough experience to make the circles. Add more circles to make a larger queen or king size quilt. Or make single circles for placemats and 3-4 circles for table runners. Limited to 4 students.
Call 941-330-0993 for a seat.
The hotel will be open for guests on March 1. Two quilting retreats are planned for the month of March. Early in March, date TBA is a retreat for UFO's. Bring one or more unfinished projects and make a concentrated effort to finish it. Don't like your project anymore? Then find one you like better and trade it with another quilter. The retreat elves have a combined experience of several hundred years of quilting and can help/coach you with practically any project, whether it be applique, paper piecing, free motion quilting, hand quilting, batting selection, color selection, etc. The sewing room is available 24 hours a day with continuous coffee, water, tea, snacks, encouragement, chocolate, etc. About 50% of the hotel is composed of suites. Hotel rooms include a hot breakfast buffet. Lunch will be catered by Der Dutchman. Stay tuned for exact dates and fees.
The second retreat at the hotel is planned for March 21-23 by Joe The Quilter. Joe Cunningham is developing a new workshop which shows one how to improvise the classic quilt patterns into a modern reinterpretation. Joe's work is mostly free form and modern. He will show you how to get out of the box. Check out his work on the website Joethequilter.com.
We will publish more information as the details are worked out. Joe has set the limit at 20 participants for his workshop.
One last trip north and I should have everything wrapped up. Looking forward to a less stressful winter. Don't forget the trick or treaters next week!
