Canal Cruise is Monday Dec. 19

Canal Cruise is Monday December 19

Thanks to those of you who keep me straight!  Seems I always forget a date, or something connected with the newsletter.  Soon as the newsletter is delivered we get the telephone calls to let me know what is missing!  Thank you and keep reminding me.

The cruise to view the lights display in Punta Gorda is MONDAY, December 19.  Motorcoach leaves Alma Sue's Parking Lot ot 2 pm, return is about 10 pm.  Why not gift your employees with a nice dinner and a cruise?  Call 941-330-0993 to make a reservation.  Oh, and you need to make one more decision - your choice of entree, either prime rib, chicken marsala, or stuffed grouper.  Dinner also includes side dishes, vegetable, rolls, and dessert.

Went to shop this morning and finished sewing one more small custom piece for Christmas - next it goes to the quilters.  We finished a hand embroidered top today then moved on to a purple and blue Mariner's compass quilt.  Photos of quilt and ladies stitching it are on "Alma Sue's Quilt Shop" facebook page.

Mary M sewed up lots more microwave bowl hot pads to restock our diminishing supply.  I use mine every day.  We started making them long before there was a commercial pattern available.  Our standard one is made from two pieces of a 10-inch square.  Attach a piece of quilters dream cotton batting to the wrong side of each piece by sewing in 4 darts.  Now put the two pieces together,  wrong side out, and sew around like a pillow.  Leave an opening to turn inside out.  Top stitch around the edge, and through the square from one side to another - use one of those fancy stitches built into your machine if  you wish.  CAUTION:  To avoid burning the batting must be 100% cotton (NOT warm and natural which isn't all cotton or even that company's 'tater' batting), and the thread must be 100% cotton.  We find Quilters Dream, thin cotton works well.  Or use a piece of 100% cotton flannel.  Quick and useful gift.  Make them in several larger sizes to accommodate bigger bowls.

See you on the boat!
